Before we get started, it is important that you know what you want to communicate with your poem (e.g., “I love you”, “Happy Birthday”, “I was an ass and I’m sorry”). When you email me with your request, please provide the following information:

1) What is the main message of the poem? What do you want the recipient to feel after reading it?

2) Who is the poem for? Please describe this person and your relationship to him/her. If the poem is not for a specific person, please describe the audience that will be reading or hearing the poem.

3) What details do I need to know about the situation? What must be included? The more details you provide, the more personal the poem will be.

4) What kind of poem would you like? You may not be a poet yourself, but you probably have some idea what you would like. For example, would you like it to rhyme? Is there some poem you admire with a style or structure you’d like me to imitate? Would you like a particular poetic form or do you prefer free verse? (If you have no idea, check out these examples of a sonnet, a villanelle, a sestina, rhyming couplets, haiku, a limerick, and free verse.)

5) By what date do you need the poem written? I aim for a turn around time of 7 days. If you require your poem sooner, you can request this for an additional cost that we will agree upon up front.

I will read your answers, ask you some more questions, and we will agree on a deadline. When I have finished a draft, I will send it to you and ask if there is anything you would like to add, change, or delete. Please note that I will do up to two rounds of revisions (three drafts in total) as part of my fee. If you wish to make further revisions after the third draft, each subsequent draft will cost an additional $25. This is why it is important that you know what you want before I begin writing.

Payment

I charge $50 for sonnets or poems of equivalent length (14 lines). If you want a longer poem, it will cost proportionately more. For example, a 28-line poem costs $100.

Payment is due when the poem is finished. I accept payment via PayPal. PayPal also accepts credit cards. I do not accept checks, IOUs, or cash in the mail.
